Star News

At Star Video Duplicating we are proud of our tradition of leading the local
market with the acquisition and use of the latest technologies. We have a
long list of firsts and we plan to always stay ahead of the curve. Of course
it's not enough to have the latest gear, you have to have the people and a
creative spirit to make the equipment work to it's potential. At Star we feel
that we excel at both of these areas.

CD Duplication

We have upgraded our Trace Affex duplicator to their APS 2002 unit that can
duplicate both CD and DVD. The software handles 32X dubs of CD and 16X
for DVD. Now we can burn your next project faster than ever before.

DVD Duplication

Star now has two Acard duplicators for DVD that will also record dual layer,
single sided discs. Currently we are using Verbatim DVD+R DL discs.
This means that you can have the equivalent of a DVD-9 disc burned.
The Acards join our list of other automated duplicators for DVD.

DVD/CD Printing

In the past most duplicated DVD's used printed paper for labeling. The disc
is spinning at 7200 RPM and any small deviation off center and the label
could cause wobble in the disc. We have purchased two Microboard DX-2
Print Factory printers to give your DVD labels a totally professional look
at a fraction of the cost. Check back with us soon because we have an
auto-load print unit on order for even faster labeling.

Video Editing

At Star we are always doing our best to keep up with the latest technology.
Russ Terpening does all of our DVD, Optical Media and our video editing.
We are using Mac Final Cut Pro 4.5 for non-linear editing and a 16X9 monitor.
We will be upgrading to version 5 in the next few months when it is available.
Final Cut fully supports HD-DV editing and we are excited to have this new
capability for our clients.

Along with Final Cut Pro we have upgraded our version of Adobe's Premier to
Pro 1.5. Premiere Pro 1.5 software revolutionizes nonlinear video editing
giving you precise control over virtually every aspect of your production.

DVD Authoring

At Star we have been using the very best DVD authoring software available.
We started with the industry standard, Daikin Scenarist and have included
Spruce Virtuoso
, Sonic DVDit PE and DVD Producer. Of course we still use our
trusty Optibase hardware encoder for big projects, yet still offer software
encoding for lower level projects like home movies.

We have recently added a great product from Canopus called Pro Coder 2.0.
This software has some amazing features for DVD and Streaming Media:

Since we were the first facility in Arizona to do DVD full time we want to keep
on the forefront of the technology and Sonic's E-DVD 3 allows us to bring our
clients very powerful new features that can enhance their DVD productions,
like cross-platform links to Web sites, on-disc PDFs, image files, product
catalogs, user manuals, and more. Linking can be done from a Video Title Set
on the fly from a standard DVD or a DVD-ROM...just think of the possibilities.

Now if all that was not enough to add to our list of equipment for DVD we are
also using Adobe's Encore 1.5 for lower level authoring!

Video Compression /MPEG-4

We have just invested in new computers and monitors for all of our systems
and have decided to get into MPEG-4 and DIVX with new hardware and software
solutions. To help lead in this new area we have joined MPEG LA and are licenced.
With MPEG-4 you can stream DVD content from a server to your website on
demand. We feel that this will have a lot of great uses in the future.

In keeping with our drive to find the latest in video compression we are now offering
Sorenson Media's Squeeze 4 Suite. With Squeeze we can compress video for a
multiple of formats including:

Imaging

At Star we can now offer the finest in digital image scanning with the brand new
Nikon Coolscan 5000
. This image scanner comes from the finest name in imaging,
Nikon and is a true 4000 dpi scanner offering 16 bit resolution and 21 Megapixels.

Projects

Star was involved in the authoring of a DVD series called "The Footpints of God"
for Ignatius Press and with Skyline Productions here in Phoenix. Joe Reynolds of
Skyline was also involved in the production of initial video for this project.
